GPS Speed Limit Warning System
Project completed by Aaron Budig

About the Project

This website gives an overview of my senior project at Western Washington University in 2011. I developed and implemented a GPS based Speed Limit Warning System to be used in automotive applications informing a driver if he/she is speeding. Using an OEM GPS receiver made by Garmin, I obtain the vehicles positional information along with the current speed. The device displays the vehicles speed and the speed limit in miles per hour (mph) on a 20x4 character LCD. A 10 segement multi-color bar graph LED's are used to visually warn the driver that they are speeding, and by how many MPH they are over. As for how the speed limit information for each road is obtained, I wrote a database that is stored locally on the device holding the speed limit for each road.
